Professor Nikolay Kornienko receives the 2025 EuChemS Lecture Award
Aug 18, 2026
Following the advice of the International Award Committee for the EuChemS Lecture Award, Professor Nikolay Kornienko has received the 2025 EuChemS Lecture Award. The award recognises the major achievements of one junior scientist working in chemistry in a country represented by a EuChemS Member Organisation.
Professor Kornienko is a Full (W3) Professor of the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bonn. His research focuses on developing innovative materials and reaction pathways for sustainable electrocatalysis, with the aim of converting abundant building blocks, such as carbon dioxide, into renewable fuels and valuable chemicals.
His group has advanced the design of dynamic catalytic environments, including metal-organic frameworks and supramolecular assemblies, and developed new electrocatalytic pathways for the formation of C-N, C-S and C-P bonds. This work expands the possibilities of using carbon dioxide as a building block for more complex products relevant to the chemical industry.
Alongside his academic research, Professor Kornienko is actively involved in technology transfer through patents and collaborations with industrial partners. The EuChemS Lecture Award recognises the creativity, scientific impact and innovative scope of his contributions to sustainable chemistry and electrocatalysis.
As part of the award, Professor Kornienko will deliver a lecture at the 11th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC11), which will take place in Vienna, Austria, in 2028.
EuChemS warmly congratulates Professor Nikolay Kornienko on this achievement.
