The Working Party is a network of representatives from EuChemS member societies working in chemistry for cultural heritage.

Mission Statement

The Working Party is a network of representatives from EuChemS member societies working in the field of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage, providing a forum for the latter.

The Working Party aims to motivate and assist the National Chemical Societies in promoting the interests, role and significance of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage in their countries.

The Working Party further aims to promote the collaboration and networking between the national groups and divisions of EuChemS member societies aligned with the domain of Chemistry for Cultural Heritage. This is done in interdisciplinary collaboration with arts and humanities, social sciences, conservation and other experts relevant in the scientific study and conservation of cultural heritage. The Party will achieve this through alignment of its activities with the relevant professional bodies (e.g., ENCoRe, ICOM-CC, ICOMOS, EAS, etc.) as well as with strategic, policy and infrastructure initiatives such as the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science.

The Working Party aims to contribute to the training of all the professionals working in this domain, with special attention to early-career researchers and life-long learning. The Party will contribute and promote career routes in chemistry for cultural heritage, as well as raise awareness of the role that chemistry plays in the understanding, sustainable management and conservation of cultural heritage.
