Dec 17, 2025
The European Chemical Society (EuChemS) congratulates Nobel Laureate Professor Jean-Marie Lehn on being awarded the 2025 Primo Levi Prize. The award was presented on 3 December 2025, during a ceremony held in the Sala Zuccari of the Italian Senate in Rome.
The Primo Levi Prize is awarded jointly by the Italian Chemical Society (SCI) and the German Chemical Society (GDCh) to chemists whose work reflects a strong commitment to human rights, ethical responsibility, and the dialogue between chemistry and society. The prize honours the legacy of Primo Levi, chemist, writer, and Holocaust survivor, and his enduring message on the social responsibility of science.
Professor Lehn was recognised for his exemplary dedication to the transnational nature of science and to pan-European scientific cooperation, as well as for his efforts to promote science as a shared endeavour that transcends political and historical divides.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the European chemical community, including Angela Agostiano, EuChemS President, and Wolfram Koch, EuChemS President-Elect.
EuChemS acknowledges this important recognition and joins colleagues across Europe and beyond in congratulating Professor Lehn on this distinction.
