May 30, 2025

EuChemS participated in the “Shaping the European Framework for Science Diplomacy” conference, held on 26 May 2025 in Vienna. Organised by the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) of the European Commission, the event aimed to strengthen the integration of science diplomacy and evidence-informed advice within EU policymaking.

Focusing on the development of a robust science-for-policy ecosystem, the programme featured high-level contributions, interactive panel discussions, and innovative formats, such as 60-second idea pitches that showcased creative proposals to enhance the science-policy interface. A highlight of the programme was the plenary session “Towards a stronger science-for-policy ecosystem in Europe”, which reviewed current European Commission efforts and introduced upcoming initiatives to support evidence-based decision-making.

EuChemS joined fellow participants from across Europe to explore the future of science advice and the evolving role of scientific organisations in shaping European policy. Discussions covered a broad spectrum of themes, from ethical considerations and capacity building to international collaboration and strategic engagement.

Through its presence, EuChemS underscored the important role of chemistry in addressing societal and environmental challenges, while strengthening ties with institutions committed to advancing science-based policymaking.
