Exploring the science-policy interface: EuChemS at the 2025 Cefic-LRI Workshop
Jun 4, 2025
On 2 June 2025, the Cefic-LRI Annual Workshop brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives in Brussels to explore how scientific progress can address the dual challenges of chemical regulation and sustainability. EuChemS was among the participants, contributing to the shared effort of promoting research-informed policies and supporting sustainable innovation in the chemical sciences.
Organised by the Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI) of the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic), the workshop highlighted the role of science in shaping a safer and more sustainable future. Over the course of the day, attendees heard presentations from several ongoing LRI-funded projects focused on both human health and environmental protection.
Key topics addressed during the sessions included dermal exposure to micro- and nanoplastics, the development of enhanced biodegradation testing methods, and the creation of tiered modelling frameworks to assess chemical substances associated with mobility concerns.
For EuChemS, the event provided an important occasion to engage directly with the scientific and regulatory communities, fostering dialogue and collaboration. Participation in the workshop reinforced EuChemS’ commitment to evidence-based policymaking and to promoting the role of chemistry in achieving Europe’s sustainability and public health goals.
