May 10, 2026

The Maria Skłodowska-Curie Museum in Warsaw has received the EuChemS Historical Landmarks Award 2024, granted by the European Chemical Society (EuChemS). This prestigious distinction is awarded to sites of exceptional importance to the history of chemistry at the European or regional level.

The official unveiling of the commemorative plaque will take place on 11 May 2026 at 12:00 in the Museum’s main hall.

The EuChemS Historical Landmarks Award recognises the Museum’s outstanding contribution to preserving the scientific legacy of Maria Skłodowska-Curie and inspiring future generations of researchers. For many years, the institution has served as a living monument to the Polish Nobel Prize laureate, combining education with the promotion of her scientific achievements.

This award is another important recognition of the Museum’s work. Previous recipients of the EuChemS Historical Landmarks Award include the Grotthuss Laboratory, the Justus Liebig Laboratory and the Ytterby Mine in Sweden.

“This is a great honour and a recognition of the value of our work,” said Barbara Gołębiowska, Director of the Museum. “Maria Skłodowska-Curie was not only one of the most important figures in the history of science; her work fundamentally transformed our understanding of matter and opened entirely new fields of research.”
