On 30 June 2025, Angela Agostiano, President of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS), took part in the opening session of a landmark joint event: the 50th Congress of the Physical Chemistry Division of the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI) and the 5th European Conference on Physical Chemistry. The event was held at the University of Pisa, Italy, and gathered leading experts in the field from across Europe.

The joint congress served as a platform for researchers and professionals to exchange knowledge, present cutting-edge research, and strengthen collaboration across borders. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including energy and the ecological transition, soft matter, life sciences, cultural heritage, advanced materials, spectroscopy, calorimetry, and theoretical and computational chemistry.

Addressing participants in the opening session, Angela Agostiano highlighted the significance of such events in fostering international cooperation and emphasised the key role chemistry plays in tackling today’s global challenges. Her remarks underscored EuChemS’ ongoing dedication to supporting open scientific exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Other speakers in the opening session included Giuseppe Iannaccone, Pro-Rector of the University of Pisa; Claudio Sangregorio, Director of ICCOM-CNR; Giovanni Marletta, Chair of the EuChemS Division of Physical Chemistry; Mariano Venanzi, President of the Physical Chemistry Division of SCI; and conference co-chairs Sefik Suzer and Marco Geppi.

The event marked an important opportunity to connect national and European scientific efforts, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that drives the advancement of physical chemistry.
