2025 General Assembly Meetings
The 2025 EuChemS General Assembly (GA) took place in Poznań, Poland, from 27 to 29 October, as part of the annual EuChemS meetings, kindly hosted by the Polish Chemical Society and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

On 27 October, the Executive Board meeting was held, during which EuChemS discussed its priorities and ongoing collaborations. The following day, the Business Session of the General Assembly, open to EuChemS Members Organisations with voting rights, took place. Chaired by EuChemS President Angela Agostiano, Member Societies adopted the next budget, closed the financial matters of the previous year, and elected Wolfram Koch as the next President-Elect (2026), who will subsequently serve as President (2027–2029) and Vice-President (2030–2031). Hans Peter Lüthi, current EuChemS Treasurer, was re-elected for a second term and will remain in office until the end of 2028. Newly elected Executive Board members include Gianluca Maria Farinola, President of the Italian Chemical Society (SCI), Gill Reid, former President of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), and Sonsoles Martín Santamaría, Secretary General of the Spanish Chemical Society (RSEQ), who will serve from 2026 to 2029.
On Wednesday, the Open Session of the General Assembly brought together EuChemS Member Societies, Supporting Members, Executive Board Members, and Professional Network Board Members to review EuChemS’ activities and achievements over the past year. During the session, Javier García-Martínez, Chair of the Scientific Committee of the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10), and Thomas Vranken, ECC10 Co-Chair and Member of the EuChemS Executive Board, presented updates and detailed information about the upcoming Congress, which will take place in Antwerp in 2026.
EuChemS also expressed heartfelt gratitude to outgoing colleagues. Floris Rutjes, who has served as Vice-President or President since early 2020, will complete his term at the end of 2025. Nicola Armaroli, whose second term as an elected member concludes this year, has been an active contributor to EuChemS since 2011, notably through his leadership of the Working Party on Energy and Chemistry and his lasting commitment to sustainability. The mandates of Slavica Ražić, Cristiana Rădulescu, and Pat Guiry also come to an end. On behalf of EuChemS, Angela Agostiano, EuChemS President, and Nineta Hrastelj, EuChemS Secretary General, expressed their sincere appreciation to all departing members for their dedication and valuable service.
2025 Professional Networks meeting
The 2025 EuChemS Annual Meetings concluded with the Professional Networks meeting on Wednesday afternoon, where representatives from Divisions, Working Parties, and the EuChemS Young Chemists’ Network (EYCN) discussed their latest initiatives and strategic collaborations. The meeting focused on strengthening ties within and beyond the chemistry community, particularly through upcoming scientific events and cross-network partnerships.
Among the guests were Javier García-Martínez (Chair of the ECC10 Scientific Committee), Thomas Vranken, ECC10 Co-Chair and Member of the EuChemS Executive Board, Jean-Pascal van Ypersele of UCLouvain and former Vice-Chair of the IPCC, and Silvia Penati, Chair of CoARA-TIER. Two online lectures, “Telling the Truth to Power” and “Inclusive Research Assessment in a European Perspective”, provided further inspiration and food for thought before participants returned home.
