{"id":8299,"date":"2021-02-15T09:41:40","date_gmt":"2021-02-15T08:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/?p=8299"},"modified":"2021-02-15T11:29:10","modified_gmt":"2021-02-15T10:29:10","slug":"iupac-women-chemistry-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/iupac-women-chemistry-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"2021 IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 11 February 2021, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (<a href=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IUPAC<\/a>) announced the 12 awardees of the IUPAC 2021 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">EuChemS is proud to see Dr Rachel Mamlok-Naaman, the Chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/divisions\/chemical-education-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EuChemS Division of Chemical Education<\/a>, as one of the awardees. On behalf of all of us at EuChemS, we congratulate Rachel Mamlok-Naaman on her award!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The IUPAC 2021 Distinguished Women in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Awards is an annual programme established in 2011. It aims to acknowledge and promote the work of women chemists or chemical engineers worldwide. The awards will be given to the 12 winners during the IUPAC World Chemistry Congress to be held in August 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You can read IUPAC\u2019s announcement <a href=\"https:\/\/iupac.org\/iupac-2021-distinguished-women\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Meet Dr Rachel Mamlok-Naaman<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr Rachel Mamlok-Naaman, from the Israel Chemical Society, is currently the Chair of the EuChemS Division of Chemical Education. She is employed in the chemistry group at the Department of Science Teaching, the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, where she served both as the head of the National Center for Chemistry Teachers (until present), and as the coordinator of the chemistry group at the Department of Science Teaching (until June 2016). Thus, her publications focus on the topics which are related to students\u2019 learning and to teachers\u2019 professional development. For her work on chemistry teachers\u2019 professional development in Israel, she got the 2016 Maxine Singer Prize for outstanding scientists at the Weizmann Institute.
