{"id":4642,"date":"2018-06-14T08:18:22","date_gmt":"2018-06-14T07:18:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/?p=4642"},"modified":"2018-06-14T09:20:23","modified_gmt":"2018-06-14T08:20:23","slug":"open-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/open-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 22 April, the Open Science Policy Platform (OSPP) of which EuCheMS is a member, adopted a set of \u2018prioritised actionable recommendations\u2019 regarding the eight Open Science ambitions of Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas, which were published on 29 May. The recommendations are to be seen as the next step towards the longer-term vision articulated by Open Science consultations and expert groups. The eight priorities are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rewards and Incentives<\/li>\n<li>Research Indicators and Next-Generation Metrics<\/li>\n<li>Future of Scholarly Communication<\/li>\n<li>European Open Science Cloud<\/li>\n<li>FAIR Data<\/li>\n<li>Research Integrity<\/li>\n<li>Skills and Education<\/li>\n<li>Citizen Science<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whilst the move towards Open Science is quickening, EuCheMS nevertheless recommends slowing down the pace in order to better understand the far reaching and oftentimes overlooked effects the policy may lead to. You can read the full recommendations presented by the OSPP <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/openscience\/pdf\/integrated_advice_opspp_recommendations.pdf#view=fit&amp;pagemode=none\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Extra reading: <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/openscience\/pdf\/ospp_combined_recommendations.pdf#view=fit&amp;pagemode=none\">the combined recommendations<\/a>, a paper on <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/openscience\/pdf\/citizen_science_recomendations.pdf#view=fit&amp;pagemode=none\">Citizen Science<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/openscience\/pdf\/minutes_ospp_02032018.pdf#view=fit&amp;pagemode=none\">minutes<\/a> of the 5<sup>th<\/sup> meeting of the OSPP (on 2 March) are now also available online.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, EU ministers have endorsed the European Commission\u2019s roadmap on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/openscience\/index.cfm?pg=open-science-cloud\">European Open Science Cloud<\/a> (EOSC) (\u2018which will support EU science in its global leading by creating a trusted environment for hosting and processing research data\u2019). Commissioner Moedas has called for commitment and ambition, calling the Cloud a \u2018game changer for science in Europe\u2019. Next steps: the incoming Austrian Presidency of the Council will gather research and innovation ministers to give the go ahead to the governance structure and launch the first version of the EOSC portal on 23 November 2018.
