{"id":16142,"date":"2022-08-15T14:42:37","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T13:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/?p=16142"},"modified":"2022-08-15T15:08:16","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T14:08:16","slug":"reusable-savings-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/reusable-savings-vote\/","title":{"rendered":"Votes held on renewable use and increasing energy savings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\">As part of the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), MEPs voted to increase the share of renewables in energy consumption on 13 July. According to the revised directive, by 2030, the European Union\u2019s final energy consumption should be at least 45% renewable.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">In addition to raising this target, MEPs raised the number of cross-border projects, and scrutinised the transport sector \u2013 in which, the use of renewables can lead to a 16% decrease in greenhouse gases.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Alongside the focus on renewables, the importance of energy saving targets was also emphasized by the MEPs \u2013 in a separate vote, regarding the revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), the target for the collective reduction of energy consumption was increased to 40% by 2030, compared to 2007 projections.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/press-room\/20220711IPR35006\/meps-back-boost-for-renewables-use-and-energy-savings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">These proposals<\/a>, which are part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/IP_22_3131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RepowerEU<\/a> package, couple with the other ambitious, legally binding goals within the EU\u2019s overarching climate strategy outlined within the \u2018Fit for 55\u2019 package.
