This data <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebusiness.net\/news\/horizon-europe-grant-success-rates-are-compared-horizon-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shows an increase<\/a> in the success rate of applicants, from 12% to 15.8%. As of mid-August, there are 25320 eligible proposals, out of which the aforementioned almost 16% is retained. The figures on the <a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/dashboard\/sense\/app\/a976d168-2023-41d8-acec-e77640154726\/sheet\/0c8af38b-b73c-4da2-ba41-73ea34ab7ac4\/state\/analysis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dashboard<\/a> are to be updated on a monthly basis.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">While the improvement is certainly beneficial for researchers, these results are still considered not completely satisfying by many, as numerous well evaluated proposals were said to remain unfunded.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Further concerns were raised in light of the European Council\u2019s proposal, which includes significant <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebusiness.net\/news\/parliament-council-lock-horns-over-2023-horizon-budget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u20ac663 million cut<\/a> of Horizon Europe\u2019s 2023 budget allocated by the commission. The proposal outlines a \u20ac122 million cut of the European Research Council (ERC), as well as \u20ac33 million less for Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) and \u20ac27 million less for research infrastructures. Christian Ehler, head of Industry, Technology and\u00a0 Research committee (ITRE) and Horizon Europe co-rapporteur heavily protested the proposed cut, alongside numerous MEPs of the committee.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">In addition to budgetary concerns from the parliament, research university associations also <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebusiness.net\/news\/horizon-europe-priorities-evolve-universities-want-more-transparency-spending\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called for improved transparency<\/a> of how the funding is allocated within the framework of the programme, as well as more clear-cut descriptions of the priorities. In an <a href=\"https:\/\/eurotech-universities.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/EuroTech-letter-Horizon-Europe-budget-transparency.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open letter<\/a>, while appreciating the EU focus on research and innovation, the Eurotech Alliance Universities pointed out that Horizon funds often accumulate around commission priorities. The alliance urged the Commission to \u201copenly inform stakeholders on how much of the Horizon Europe funds have been allocated and granted to non-Horizon Europe priorities\u201d to increase transparency.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Preliminary data on Horizon Europe programme applications was made available recently.
