{"id":14274,"date":"2022-04-14T13:32:11","date_gmt":"2022-04-14T12:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/?p=14274"},"modified":"2022-04-14T13:38:48","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T12:38:48","slug":"reports-inclusivity-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.euchems.eu\/newsletters\/reports-inclusivity-science\/","title":{"rendered":"EACEA and RSC Releases reports on inclusivity in higher education and science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\">The European Commission\u2019s European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) compiled a set of ten indicators, and using them, measured how 37 European countries perform on the field of equality and inclusion. The findings were published in the report \u201cTowards Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education in Europe\u201d. This report concluded that inclusivity in higher education leaves much to be desired.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The \u201cTowards Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education in Europe\u201d report can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/eacea.ec.europa.eu\/national-policies\/eurydice\/content\/towards-equity-and-inclusion-higher-education-europe_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) also had inclusivity-related issues on its agenda: it published a report on racial and ethnic inequalities in the chemical sciences. The \u201cMissing Elements\u201d report\u2019s key findings introduce the lack of diversity in senior academic roles in the UK, as well as the disadvantages minority and ethnic principal investigators face, such as the lower amount of average funding received.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">RSC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9Mrl5YEUBWE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">organised a live launch event<\/a> for the release of the report, where RSC CEO Dr Helen Pain, Professor Robert Mokaya, Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu, Kevin Coutinho and Professor Marina Resmini discussed the findings, and called for addressing and acknowledging the issue. In order to do so, with the launch of the report, the RSC committed to a five-point programme aimed at reducing inequalities.
