On first inspection, the scope of the research articles, features, perspectives and letters is striking. Immediately apparent is the multi- and interdisciplinary nature of green chemistry and engineering. Topics span green solvents for bioprocessing, entropic considerations in molecular design, quantitative sustainability analysis, the road to sustainable nanotechnology, waste to wealth by sustainable approaches, directed discovery of greener cosolvents, green recycling, multistage optimization for chemical process sustainability enhancement under uncertainty and clean enzymatic preparation of oxygenated biofuels from vegetable and waste cooking oils.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>These insightful papers report how undergraduate curricula has been influenced by advances in green chemistry and engineering research<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of note is the inclusion of features on <em>Green<\/em> <em>Eng<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>nee<\/em><em>ri<\/em><em>ng<\/em> <em>Educa<\/em><em>ti<\/em><em>on<\/em> <em>i<\/em><em>n<\/em> <em>Che<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>ca<\/em><em>l<\/em> <em>Eng<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>nee<\/em><em>ri<\/em><em>ng<\/em> <em>Cu<\/em><em>rri<\/em><em>cu<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>a<\/em> and <em>Green<\/em> <em>Che<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>s<\/em><em>tr<\/em><em>y<\/em> <em>Educa<\/em><em>ti<\/em><em>on<\/em><em>:<\/em> <em>25<\/em> <em>Yea<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>s<\/em> <em>o<\/em><em>f<\/em> <em>P<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>og<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>ess<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>25<\/em> <em>Yea<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>s<\/em> <em>Ahea<\/em><em>d<\/em>. Anastas states that \u201cdesign strategies need to incorporate information and data at the nexus of multiple disciplines. Critically, there is a need for the incorporation of toxicology into the design phase of the molecular design process.\u201c Consistent with this message recent advances in this area are showcased in the RSC journal <em>G<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>ee<\/em><em>n Chemistry<\/em> themed issue: <em>M<\/em><em>o<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>ecu<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>a<\/em><em>r <\/em><em>Des<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>gn<\/em> <em>f<\/em><em>o<\/em><em>r<\/em> <em>Reduced<\/em> <em>Tox<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>c<\/em><em>it<\/em><em>y<\/em> in August 2016. Perspectives published on <em>connec<\/em><em>ti<\/em><em>ng<\/em> <em>tox<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>co<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>ogy<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>che<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>s<\/em><em>tr<\/em><em>y<\/em> <em>t<\/em><em>o<\/em> <em>ensu<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>e<\/em> <em>sa<\/em><em>f<\/em><em>e<\/em><em>r<\/em> <em>che<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>ca<\/em><em>l<\/em> <em>des<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>gn<\/em>, <em>a<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>a<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>s<\/em> <em>abou<\/em><em>t<\/em> <em>s<\/em><em>tr<\/em><em>uc<\/em><em>t<\/em><em>u<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>a<\/em><em>l<\/em> <em>a<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>e<\/em><em>rt<\/em><em>s<\/em> and <em>o<\/em><em>n<\/em> <em>t<\/em><em>he<\/em> <em>des<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>gn<\/em> <em>o<\/em><em>f<\/em> <em>sa<\/em><em>f<\/em><em>e<\/em><em>r <\/em><em>che<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>ca<\/em><em>l<\/em><em>s<\/em><em>:<\/em> <em>a<\/em> <em>pa<\/em><em>t<\/em><em>h<\/em> <em>f<\/em><em>o<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>w<\/em><em>a<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>d<\/em>, are landmark papers in this field. A highlight is the generic course curricula for training of toxicological chemistry proposed by Steven DeVito which raises awareness of green chemistry education initiatives that can be easily adopted by universities.<\/p>\n<p>In closing, the editorial of the <em>AC<\/em><em>S Sustainable Chemistry &amp; Engineering<\/em> special issue <em>t<\/em><em>w<\/em><em>en<\/em><em>t<\/em><em>y<\/em><em>&#8211;<\/em><em>f<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>ve <\/em><em>yea<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>s<\/em> <em>o<\/em><em>f<\/em> <em>g<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>een<\/em> <em>che<\/em><em>m<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>s<\/em><em>tr<\/em><em>y<\/em> <em>and<\/em> <em>g<\/em><em>r<\/em><em>een<\/em> <em>eng<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>nee<\/em><em>ri<\/em><em>ng<\/em><em>:<\/em> <em>the<\/em> <em>end<\/em> <em>o<\/em><em>f<\/em> <em>t<\/em><em>he<\/em> <em>beg<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>nn<\/em><em>i<\/em><em>ng<\/em> by Paul Anastas and David Allen states eloquently \u201cIsaac Newton is quoted as saying, \u2019If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.\u2019 Clearly, the work of the past 25 years was produced by many intellectual giants.
