As the European elections quickly approach, the European Union’s Food Safety Agency (EFSA) has launched a campaign to highlight the important role the EU plays in showing how ingredients, processes, packaging and labelling are assessed to ensure nutrition and health claims are backed by science. Food safety has also long been on EuChemS’ radar. Working with the EuChemS Division of Food Chemistry, we have provided the European institutions with important feedback, notably on the setting of legal limits of industrial trans fats in foods. More recently, EuChemS participated in a high-level meeting between EFSA and its academic stakeholders on the risks of pesticides.
