SUMMARY:Twelfth International Symposium Effects of Surface Heterogeneity in
Adsorption\, Catalysis and related Phenomena (ISSHAC-12)
DESCRIPTION:The ISSHAC symposium has been known for its unique style. The l
ecture program is ample and\, as such\, there is little time for formal di
scussion. Instead the program puts emphasis on creation of a maximum numbe
r of opportunities for informal discussion and facilitation of direct pers
on-to-person exchanges of ideas. The extended social program provides nume
rous such opportunities. Interaction-encouraging social programs are offer
ed every day in the late afternoon and evening. In organizing the first an
d subsequent ISSHAC symposia we have followed the principle that each symp
osium should be located in a different but attractive place\, to offer an
opportunity for participants to enjoy science\, collegiality\, and cultura
l ambiance at each meeting. In doing this\, we have followed the timeless
Roman dictum that the “spirit of place”\, the ambiance\, is crucial to
the success of an enterprise.\n\nScope of the Symposium:\n\nExperimental\
, theoretical and computational studies of adsorption\, catalysis &amp\; o
ther phenomena in micro- and mesopores.\nFundamentals and applications of
surface engineering including nanoscale surface modifications.\nModelling
of solid surfaces (fundamental theories\, molecular simulations\, pore net
 work modelling\, etc.).\nChemical engineering aspects including diffusion\
, flow and transport phenomena in solids.\nCatalysis\, separation\, gas st
orage\, electrochemistry\, functional surfaces &amp\; coatings as well as
other phenomena.\nBiomaterials and biomedical applications of new material
s.\nSynthesis\, characterization and applications of new materials (MOFs\,
  supramolecular structures\, nano/composites\, polymers\, 2D and 3D materi
als).\nGreen chemistry approaches for new materials and process.
