			<content:encoded><![CDATA[Professor Ulrich Schubert, EuCheMS President, was invited to contribute to a panel debate entitled &quot;Crossing the Innovation Valley of Death in the EU – Reality or Fiction?&quot; with Fréderique Backaert, from the European Young Chemists' Network, and others high level panellist from the industry and the European Commission at the 11th SusChem stakeholders event which took place in Brussels on 14 May 2013.
Prof. Schubert stated, amongst other, that the innovation gap should not be considered as a &quot;valley of death&quot; but as an opportunity. Moreover, he expressed his views on the university system and how it should be reconsidered in order to bridge the gap. Finally, Prof. Schubert estimated that Horizon 2020 represents a big opportunity for chemistry that can play a leading role in responding to societal challenges. Chemists should take this important opportunity and work together also to provide to chemistry a better image in the future.&nbsp; ]]></content:encoded>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[On 6 April 2013, in Strasbourg, a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Physical Society (EPS) and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS) was signed by Professor Luisa Cifarelli, EPS President and Professor Ulrich Schubert, EuCheMS President.<br /><br />The aim of the Memorandum of Understanding is to strengthen the role of chemical and physical sciences across Europe. It is based on the recognition that EPS and EuCheMS share many objectives such as community building, scientific excellence, support for basic sciences and frontier research.<br /><br />The agreement was signed during the EPS Council meeting, which brings together over 70 physicists from all disciplines from around Europe. ]]></content:encoded>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[On 6 April 2013, in Strasbourg, a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Physical Society (EPS) and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences (EuCheMS) will be signed by Professor Luisa Cifarelli, EPS President, and Professor Ulrich Schubert, EuCheMS President.<br /><br />The Memorandum of Understanding's aim is to strengthen the role of chemical and physical sciences across Europe. It is based on the recognition that EPS and EuCheMS share many objectives such as community building, scientific excellence, support for basic sciences and frontier research.<br /><br />The occasion is given by the round table on open access publishing organised by EPS, which will take place during the EPS Council meeting—an event which brings together over 70 physicists from all disciplines from around Europe.<br /><br />The round table will be moderated by Sir John Enderby, and EuCheMS will be represented by Professor Schubert. Every participant will be invited to present briefly the main concerns, policy and implementation initiatives in open access publishing.
